FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

May 2024

1. When will the specialty plates be available for pick up?

Our plate is scheduled to be released into production in 2024.

2. What are the costs of the plates?

Cost of an initial license plate is $44 and a personalized plate is $69. The cost also includes a $10 mandatory donation to a charitable donation. Our $10 donation will be donated to Bluegrass Alpha’s Inc.

3. If I have a personalized plate under a different specialty plate, can I automatically get the same personalized plate name when I transfer to our ALPHA plate?

Can a personalized plate name be duplicated across multiple specialty plates or is it exclusive and can only be registered once?

A brother can request their current personalization be put on their new, different special plate. The personalization is exclusive and can only be ‘active’ on one type of specialty plate.

4. Are there any restrictions for personalized plates?

No I, O, Q, U; no obscenity or profanity; no duplication of currently issued plates.

5. What is the acceptable proof of membership to procure the specialty plate?

The license committee has proposed one of three acceptable proofs of membership:

  • a valid membership card;

  • a certificate of membership;

  • written evidence of the brother’s status as a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. signed by the President and Secretary of a Kentucky graduate chapter.

  •

NOTE: The written evidence of membership is a standardized letter created by the license committee and will be used by all four Kentucky graduate chapters.

6. How many plates must be maintained to continue our specialty plates?

All approved organizations are required to maintain a minimum number of 500 registered plates annually in order to continue specialized plate production. If 500 registered plates are not maintained after the first year of implementation, the organization is put on probation and given an additional year to comply with the 500 required plates. If 500 registered plates cannot be maintained in a two-year period, the Licensing Cabinet will discontinue production of plates.
